Name/URL Option In Blogger Comments

in Blogaholic

I host a meme (Girls Talk every Thursday on my other blog), and although I don’t get to blog hop on the participants’ entries pronto, I reserve time for fulfilling my host duties when I can. That duty means going to the participants’ respective blogs, reading their entries for the week and leaving a comment to let them know I’ve been there. I must say that commenting IS fun in itself, but there are some things that can make this activity tedious. One of those things is word verification. I don’t know about other people, but I personally don’t find it appealing to comment in a blog that requires a commentator to enter a captcha since I’m lazy like that. Besides, you can still moderate comments (choose not to publish them automatically) if you’re worried about nasty comments finding their way to your posts.

Another thing is not having a Name/URL option. I’m talking about Blogger blogs here. You see, one of the main reasons people leave comments on blogs is for backlink juice. Why else would spammers pepper our blogs with their irritating comments? If people believe they can’t gain anything from commenting, they lose one less motivation to visit your blog. Most blog platforms add the NO-follow attribute in their comment section, but more and more people are realizing the importance of having do-follow as a way of attracting more people to visit and comment on their sites.

Blogger blogs, by default, do not have the Name/URL option in the comment section, so when people want to comment, they most likely find themselves dealing with the fact that their name will link to their Blogger profile if they choose to use their Google account as identification. Not very motivating, eh? But, good news for Blogger blog owners, it’s actually quite simple to allow the Name/URL option on your comment sections. How?

  1. Log-in to your Blogger account.
  2. Click on Settings -> Comments.
  3. Tick Anyone – includes Anonymous Users beside the Who Can Comment? section.
  4. Scroll down to Comment moderation and choose “Always” then click Save Settings at the bottom most section of the page.
  5. That’s it! There’s no step five.

See? In just four steps you are on your way to gaining more blog commentators.

Me too. I’ve always wondered how to make it come out, didn’t think it was the “anonymous” thing. Thanks!

Actually I wrote a post about using it a long time ago and the benefits of doing so.Since most blogs are do follow, it’s really good to use that option instead of the profile,by then, your website get the linky juiceit deserved and not the blogger.com.

Aray ko po! Nagka-bukol ako dun sa part na may captcha…hahaha. My reason for putting that captcha was, someone sent me an undesirable comment. Eh wholesome pa naman image ng site ko and my daughter reads my blog. I could not afford a repeat performance so I had to put the captcha.

Sige na, love mo naman ako so kahit na may captcha ako, leave comments pa din ha ;)

God Bless!!!

Btw, may papagawa ako sa iyong theme. Yung isa kong site. Gagawin ko na syang very, very active. http://www.homefamilyheart.com
