My sister Phoebe is managing a small time online shop selling all sorts of cute stuff. I can say that it is a major headache for her when she has to deal with joy bidders, low ballers and scammers. There are a lot of them online, and being a fairly new seller, she has a lot to learn about handling those types of people.
She’s been reading up on small business resources about tips on how to run her business smoothly. I know I can learn a lot from it if I had the time to read them too, but right now I’m contented to ask her to share with me what she’s learned so far. What I do for a living requires good market strategy, something which I admit I am not good at, and what she discovers and shares with me helps a lot.
We only get to talk about these during mealtimes. Most of the day we’re both in front of the computer doing our own stuff, but when we do talk we make sure we learn something new from each other everyday. She’s still young and she has a long way to go before she can be called a seasoned seller. I may be older than her but like her, I still have a lot to learn.
But one thing I know is that achieving financial freedom isn’t easy, and doesn’t happen overnight. I keep telling Phoebe that she has to be good to her customers and keep them coming back for more because that’s the only way she’ll be able to sustain her online venture. All the small business resources that she reads could only help her as far as she’s willing to help herself.
