The Rich And The Famous

Last time I checked, Bill Gates was the richest man in the world. Today I was curious enough to Google if anybody has taken the crown off Gates, and yes, he’s off the top position. Who now reigns as the richest man in the whole wide world? Name is Carlos Slim Helu, and no, I haven’t heard of him either until today. He is a telecommunications tycoon from Mexico, and he came in third last year. Quite a jump, wouldn’t you say? Apparently, the telecom industry in Mexico is booming right now because his net worth up by $18.5 billion in a year.

Wow. That’s more than I will ever make in thirty lifetimes. I can’t even begin to imagine how much money that is. Just seeing the figures makes my head reel. These are the people who have gigantic homes one can easily get lost in, who might very well use silver bars as their paperweight. Tee hee. Envious much? Not very. I can only imagine the headaches that come with it. Helu is just (for them, not for the rest of us. LOL) point five billion richer than Gates, so we’ll still see next year who emerges on top.

Clever (And Weird) Ad Campaigns

I was surfing the net earlier looking for pictures of weird bags for my other blog when I spotted a cool-looking advertisement in one of the search pages. This brought about the search for more clever advertising campaign materials. I would just like to share with you some of the most eye-popping I’ve seen, and I’m sure that after seeing the following pictures, you would agree with me that whoever is behind those advertising materials are pure, bloody genius:

Formula Tooth Care. If your teeth gets as strong as this after using Formula, why the hell wouldn’t you buy the product?

Bionade. A great example of painted vehicle illusion. If I’d seen that one on the street I wouldn’t be able to take my eyes of it. Why, the bottle could fall off anytime! Clever truckvertising.

Jobs In Town. Now this one made me laugh out loud. I mean, I could have never thoughts about putting ads this way in a million years.

Absolut Vodka (with Ikea). I’d be afraid to walk under that ad. You know, just in case.

Stop ‘n Grow. I’d like one of those bags, please. Ultimate cool.

Zoo Bus Ad. Now this last one is pretty eye-popping. This is one bad-ass advertisement.

What weird but cool advertising material have you seen lately?

Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious

I was looking for a word to describe the wonderful, wonderful free portfolio theme from WPESP that I use on my Portfolio Site (still a work in progress, by the way) when I remembered a delightful word which I learned when I was just a kid. I promptly searched for a video of it on YouTube, and I came upon this Mary Poppins video (I am still in love with Julie Andrews after all these years) that brought a rush of nostalgia. Oh the simplicity and joy of childhood. Watch with me:

Why I Love deviantART

As an admirer of beauty, I am constantly drawn to deviantART to look at the awesome artworks they have in there. That, plus the supportive and very generous community of artists (it’s where I get some of my design inspirations and free resources) keeps me coming back. I’ve been a Deviant for more than two years now, but I still make it a point to visit the site to check out their newly published artworks, see which are the most popular ones in their respective category and just simply draw inspiration from the amazing talent of it’s members. I recently stumbled upon a charcoal portrait of a Quarter horse tack box which sells for $250. I don’t even have an interest in horses, but it was unbelievably pretty it stuck in my mind and pointed it out to the real artist in the house, Paulie. The shot could have been better (like I’m a pro at taking pictures  ), but it didn’t hide the beauty of the masterpiece.
